NEW YORK (AP) — An appeals court Thursday rejected Donald Trump’s bid to delay a civil trial in a lawsuit brought by New York’s attorney general, allowing the case to proceed days after a judge ruled the former president committed years of fraud and stripped him of some companies as punishment. The decision, by the state’s intermediate appellate court, clears the way for Judge Arthur Engoron to preside over a non-jury trial starting Oct. 2 in Manhattan in New York Attorney General Letitia James’ civil lawsuit.Trump is listed among dozens of possible witnesses, setting up a potential courtroom showdown with the judge. The fraud ruling Tuesday threatens to upend his real estate empire and force him to give up prized New York properties such as Trump Tower, a Wall Street office building, golf courses and a suburban estate.Trump has denied wrongdoing, arguing that some of his assets are worth far more than what’s listed on annual financial statements that Engoron said he used to secure l...Stock market today: Wall Street ticks higher as pressure from the bond and oil markets eases

NEW YORK (AP) — Wall Street is ticking higher Thursday as the pressures squeezing it this month from the oil and bond markets relax a bit. The S&P 500 was 0.6% higher in late trading after flipping between small gains and losses a few times. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 106 points, or 0.3%, at 33,657, as of 3 p.m. Eastern time, and the Nasdaq composite was 0.8% higher.A drop in oil prices took some heat off the stock market, a day after crude reached its highest price of the year. Treasury yields also relaxed to give the stock market more of a breather, particularly Big Tech companies. A 2% gain for Tesla and 1.7% climb for Meta Platforms were two of the strongest forces lifting the S&P 500. Stocks, though, are still on track for their worst month of the year as Wall Street grapples with a new normal where interest rates will stay high for a while. The Federal Reserve has pulled its main interest rate to the highest level since 2001 in hopes of extinguishing high ...Ryder Cup Guide: Schedule, how to watch and betting favorites

GUIDONIA MONTECELIO, Italy (AP) — What started as a friendly golf exhibition nearly 100 years ago is anything but that now.The Ryder Cup has become the biggest spectacle in golf, held once every two years between the United States and Europe for nothing more than bragging rights and ownership of a 17-inch gold trophy. Seth Waugh, the CEO at the PGA of America, referred to the Ryder Cup as a “combination of the Olympics and the Super Bowl and a (Rolling) Stones concert.”While the United States has a 27-14-2 lead in the series dating to 1927, Europe has a 11-9-1 edge going back to 1979 when continental Europe was invited to join players from Britain and Ireland. The Americans have not won on European soil in 30 years. This could be their best chance to end that drought, coming off a 19-9 mauling of Europe in 2021 at Whistling Straits. Of course, they say that every time the Ryder Cup comes to Europe. And the gold trophy never seems to go home with them.WHEN AND WHERE IS THE RYDER CUP?T...Appeals court rejects Donald Trump’s request to delay civil trial in wake of fraud ruling that threatens business empire
