Voters oust Michigan clerk who doubts election results ADAMS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Voters in one of Michigan’s most conservative counties have ousted a small-town clerk accused of improperly handling voting equipment after casting doubt on President Joe Biden’s election victory.Stephanie Scott lost Tuesday’s recall election in Hillsdale County’s Adams Township to Suzy Roberts, who got 406 votes to Scott’s 214, according to unofficial results reported by the county clerk’s office.Roberts, a Republican who identifies as an independent, filed as non-party-affiliated in the recall election because Michigan law does not allow for challengers to file under the same political party, the Hillsdale Daily News reported previously.Scott had run unopposed as a first-time Republican candidate when she was chosen in the November 2020 election to handle the voting in Adams Township, a reliably Republican community where the ticket of Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence received nearly 76% of the vote that year. But she joined ...

Eli Lilly says experimental drug slows Alzheimer’s worsening WASHINGTON (AP) — Eli Lilly and Co. said Wednesday its experimental Alzheimer’s drug appeared to slow worsening of the mind-robbing disease in a large study. In the 18-month trial, people in the early stages of Alzheimer’s who received infusions of donanemab showed 35% less decline in thinking skills compared to those given a dummy drug, Lilly announced in a press release. The drug is designed to target and clear away a sticky protein called beta-amyloid that builds up into brain-clogging plaques that are one hallmark of Alzheimer’s. A similar amyloid-targeting drug, Eisai and Biogen’s Leqembi, recently hit the market with similar evidence that it could modestly slow Alzheimer’s — and also some safety concerns, brain swelling or small brain bleeds.Donanemab also comes with that risk. Lilly said in its study, the brain side effects caused the deaths of two participants and a third also died after a serious case. The preliminary study results haven’t been vetted by outside experts. Did you know you could get caught speeding by an aircraft? CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (KDVR) — Did you know that you could get caught speeding by an aircraft flying above the roadway? It's true, and Colorado State Patrol handed out quite a few tickets from the skies on Tuesday.CSP operates multiple Cessna aircraft that it uses to monitor traffic on Colorado highways. The planes fly about 1,500 feet above the ground watching drivers on Interstate 70, Interstate 25, C-470 and other major highways.Pilots then monitor a vehicle’s speed using thick white strips painted or placed on road surfaces. Each mark is exactly half a mile apart. What happens if you get a red light ticket in Denver? If you have ever driven by one of those signs that read, "Speed checked by aircraft" and thought it was just a scare tactic, CSP in Castle Rock is reminding drivers it's not.On Tuesday, CSP said they issued 18 citations in just two hours in the area of I-25 and Greenland using aircraft.According to CSP, it is common to spot speeders driving anywhere between 80 and 10...

Astronomers observe star swallowing planet for first time — and it’s the size of Jupiter (CNN) — In a world first, scientists have observed the moment that a dying star consumed a planet — a fate that eventually awaits Earth. While astronomers have previously seen planets just before and just after being engulfed by a star, this is the first time that a planetary demise has been observed, according to a team of scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University and the California Institute of Technology.“The fact that the solar system planets would get engulfed into the sun in the future was something I had read first in high school, so it was surreal to realize that we may have found the first ever example of catching a similar event in real time!” study lead author Kishalay De, a postdoctoral researcher at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, told CNN.The process sees a star billow out to a million times its original size as it runs out of fuel, engulfing any matter in its wake. Astronomers observed this as a white-hot fla...
