LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Las Vegas lawyer accused of orchestrating a $460 million “slip-and-fall” Ponzi scheme across the U.S. West was granted release Friday after spending more than a year in federal custody. U.S. District Judge Cam Ferenbach said he was persuaded by Matthew Beasley’s “strong family support” to give the personal injury lawyer a chance at leading a “productive life” as he awaits trial on charges of money laundering and wire fraud. While out of custody, Ferenbach said, Beasley is required to maintain employment and barred from contacting any of the alleged victims in the case or possessing a weapon.Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel Schiess told the judge the federal government would appeal the decision and ask for a court order keeping Beasley in custody pending the outcome of the appeal.Beasley was indicted last week in connection with the alleged scheme but has been in custody since March 2022, when he was shot and wounded by FBI agents who arrived at his...OUPD: The University of Oklahoma campus secure after alert sent about 'active shooter'

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- While the Missouri Chamber of Commerce is celebrating a big milestone, they also want stakeholders to know crime and the lack of childcare is affecting Missouri's economy. According to the chamber, more than 30% of parents in Missouri have left a job or passed on an opportunity in the past year because of childcare. At the same time, Missouri has the fourth highest rate of gun deaths in the country. Missouri Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Dan Mehan said it's hurting the state's business industry. "If we can address that problem, that challenge, we will be much better than other states," Mehan said during the Chamber's 100th anniversary celebration. The Rockies’ thin starting pitching corps was undoubtedly the team’s weakest link entering the season. An ugly 10-5 loss to the Nationals on Friday night at Coors Field offered proof of that. One game after lefty Kyle Freeland pitched a gem in the Rockies’ 1-0 victory, right-hander Jose Urena melted down and was gone in the third inning. The drop-off from Freeland to Urena was striking and Urena was greeted with a smattering of boos from the crowd of 30,869.The Rockies, as they are apt to do in LoDo, rallied late, scoring three runs in the seventh against Washington’s vulnerable bullpen. The big hits were a run-scoring double by rookie shortstop Ezequiel Tovar and an RBI single by Kris Bryant to score Tovar. Bryant finished 1-for-4, extending his hitting streak to eight games.Washington, however, came back with two runs in the eighth against reliever Dinelson Lamet, who served up a double to Joey Meneses and RBIs singles to Dominic Smith and Keibert Ruiz.
