(WKBN) -- August begins with a full moon - and what's more, it's a supermoon. The next full moon will occur at 2:32 p.m. ET Tuesday, Aug. 1. The moon will be below the horizon at that time, so you will have to wait until later in the day to catch the full moon.Tuesday's moon is the second of this year's four “supermoons,” which appear bigger and brighter in the sky due to the distance of the moon from the Earth. It is also the second of three full moons that will occur during the summer season. What is the August full moon called?According to NASA, the August full moon is called the "sturgeon moon," a name that was published in the 1930s in the Maine Farmer's Almanac. According to the publication, the Native American tribe Algonquin gave the August full moon that name because it was easier for them to catch the prehistoric-looking sturgeon fish in larger bodies of water during this time of year. NASA says another name for the August full moon is the "green corn" moon. When can you se...APD officers who stopped kidnapping attempt to provide details Monday

The biggest task of the offseason is finally complete for the Wild. They agreed to terms with Filip Gustavsson on Monday, keeping the goaltender in Minnesota on a 3-year, $11.25 million contract with average annual value of $3.75 million. This agreement helps the Wild avoid an arbitration hearing with the 25-year-old Gustavsson, which was scheduled for later this week. It seemed things were heading in that direction with general manager Bill Guerin previously unable to work out a deal with Gustavsson’s representation. In the end, though, both sides came to a compromise, and the Wild will head into next season with Gustavsson and future hall of famer Marc-Andre Fleury. The new contract is a nice reward for Gustavsson after he posted a 22-9-7 record last season to go along with a 2.10 goals against average and .931 save percentage. Not bad for a guy that was content returning to his native Sweden if things didn’t work out last season.Gustavsson proved to be a pleasant surpris...Schenectady-Saratoga Symphony Orchestra to perform at Music Haven

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Cardinals completed two trades on Sunday with the future in mind, moving pending free agent pitchers Jordan Montgomery, Chris Stratton and Jordan Hicks for a load of prospects. Montgomery and Stratton have joined the Texas Rangers. Hicks has joined the Toronto Blue Jays. And in return, the Cardinals added five new players. The haul includes four pitchers and one infielder. Four of the five newcomers are prospects who have yet to make their MLB debuts. Cardinals trade frenzy begins: Montgomery to Rangers, Hicks to Blue Jays The Cardinals found themselves in an unusual position as sellers with an underwhelming 47-60 record at the end of July.
