The two teams sitting below the Dash, the Orlando Pride and Angel City, face off Monday and are one point behind.Just before halftime, Alozie got around goalkeeper Mandy Haught to open the scoring. The forward beat Haught to the ball and slammed her shot into the net.In the 67th minute, María Sánchez sent a long pass over the top of Gotham’s defense. Alozie beat two defenders and chipped a shot from distance over Haught, who was sprinting out of the box trying to block the attempt. EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City shook off a subpar performance during which they blew a 17-point lead, but held on to defeat the New York Jets 23-20 on Sunday night.Mahomes was intercepted twice and struggled to get much going after a quick start with pop superstar Taylor Swift watching Travis Kelce and the Chiefs for the second straight game, this time from a suite at MetLife Stadium. After the Chiefs (3-1) regained the lead on Harrison Butker’s 26-yard field goal with 10:51 remaining in the game, Zach Wilson made his first big mistake when he lost a snap. Tershawn Wharton recovered the loose ball and Mahomes and the Chiefs got it at the Jets 47.Michael Carter II intercepted Mahomes on third-and-20 from the Jets 40 — but it was negated by a holding call on Sauce Gardner. Replays showed it was a questionable call and an irate Jets coach Robert Saleh stormed down the sideline to shout at an official.Mahomes, who had a 24-yard run on third-and-22 to ext...Mexician officials say at least nine people are confirmed dead from the collapse of a church roof

SEATTLE (AP) — The elation of less than 24 hours earlier inside the Texas Rangers clubhouse was replaced with disappointment about a major missed opportunity. The Rangers are thrilled to be back in the postseason, but failed to win American League West title and earn some extra time off when they lost to the Seattle Mariners 1-0 on Sunday.Coupled with Houston’s 8-1 win over Arizona, the defeat handed the AL West title to the Astros (90-72) as the result of the season-series tiebreaker and sent Texas (90-72) to the postseason as a wild card team for a best-of-three series at Tampa Bay starting Tuesday.“There’s always going to be disappointment because this game was big. It was huge. And so I’m sure there’s disappointment in there,” Texas manager Bruce Bochy said. “Once we get on the plane realizing you’re in postseason, and like I said, you get your head back to where it needs to be.”Instead of days of rest and home-field advantage, the Rangers will have to advance from the Wild Card ...California Gov. Although the federal government avoided a shutdown this weekend, the simple threat of one has carried a cost that continues to hang over federal operations.Current and former federal officials said that agencies have spent many hours over the past couple of weeks focusing on the possibility of shutting down, instead of the mission of their agencies. They also say brinkmanship over suspending government operations is distracting and demoralizing to the federal workforce.Executive editor of Federal News Network Jason Miller told WTOP that federal leaders lost serious time in preparation for a federal shutdown.“I’ve talked to several different federal executives over the last week or so, and all of them have spent 20 hours of their 40 hour week or 30 hours out of their 50 hour week planning, doing the administrative work, thinking about (the threatened shutdown), going to meetings …” he said.Miller added that one agency executive working in finance and budgeting found...Taylor Swift watches Travis Kelce’s Chiefs take on the Jets at MetLife Stadium

The single market is at the very heart of the European Union. But when it comes to one type of product — life-saving medicines — it’s every country for itself.Patients across the bloc don’t have the same drugs available when battling with disease. A doctor in Romania waits on average two years to prescribe the same cutting-edge drug as their counterpart in Germany. If someone is suffering from a life-threatening illness such as cancer, that’s the difference between life and death. Policymakers are aware of this postcode lottery — and want to change it.“Patients in Western and bigger member states have access to 90 percent of newly approved medicines. In Eastern and smaller member states, this number is as low as 10 percent,” said Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides in a speech in April. “This is truly unacceptable.” The senior EU official was presenting the Commission’s proposal to reform Europe’s pharmaceutical market, the main aim of which is to fix this iss...Latest news
