Martinez belts game-ending grand slam in Longhorns' 12-2 win over Sam Houston AUSTIN (KXAN) — After 11 days between games, the No. 5 Texas Longhorns made easy work of the Sam Houston State Bearkats 12-2 in five innings on Wednesday at McCombs Field. A grand slam by Texas shortstop Viviana Martinez in the bottom of the fifth pushed the score past the 8-run mercy rule limit and sent the Longhorns to victory in walk-off fashion. It was part of a 6-run frame for the Longhorns as Bella Dayton and Mia Scott both had RBI singles before Martinez's fourth home run of the season. She hit a 2-run double in the first and had six RBIs in the game. Manor ISD names new superintendent AUSTIN (KXAN) — Manor ISD has named a new superintendent.Dr. Robert Sormani took over as superintendent on May 1. He most recently worked for Hutto ISD, where he served as an associate superintendent. Hunter shoots partner after mistaking him for turkey, Washington County sheriff says A 48-year-old Excelsior man injured his hunting partner on Wednesday afternoon south of Stillwater after mistaking him for a turkey and firing a shot, officials said.The men were hunting together east of Northbrook Boulevard and 51st Street about 1:30 p.m. when the shooting occurred, according to a news release issued by the Washington County sheriff’s office.Washington County sheriff’s deputies and paramedics responded to the scene and took the wounded man — a 54-year-old from Arden Hills — to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. Police: Woman shot by boyfriend in Ballwin home BALLWIN, Mo. - Police are investigating a domestic shooting Wednesday night in Ballwin.According to a spokesperson for the Ballwin Police Department, they received a call about shots fired a little after 8 p.m. in the 300 block of Quail Village Drive.A man and a woman, who the police claim are in a relationship, got into an altercation, and the man shot the woman in the lower spine. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition.Police said the suspect fled the scene in his car, which is described as a black BMW sedan.The police did not say if the man and woman lived together. Koreatown attempted bank robbery suspect identified; taken into federal custody A 24-year-old man who attempted to rob a bank in Koreatown last month and then barricaded himself in his vehicle, prompting police to release tear gas into his car, has been taken into federal custody and charged with attempted bank robbery, federal authorities announced Wednesday.  The attempted robbery and standoff occurred on April 13, in the 2700 block of West Olympic Boulevard. The suspect, now identified as Los Angeles resident Oscar Rene Canales, is accused of walking into the Bank of Hope at around 1:30 p.m. and demanding money from two of the bank’s tellers. “According to witnesses, Canales threatened to have a gun and reached into his waistband as if to grab a gun,” a news release from the Federal Bureau of Investigation stated.  When L.A. police arrived at the scene, the 24-year-old was allegedly holding a knife in one hand and an unknown object in his other, while threatening to have a bomb, officials said. A SWAT team with the Los Angeles P...
