CREVE COEUR, Mo. - For young brain cancer survivor Drew Patchin, Friday was all about about packing up and heading out to Houston. Thanks to some hometown heroes, he’s doing it in style, in a huge tour bus that was escorted by local enforcement.“I'm a warrior, I’m a warrior” chanted 10-year-old Drew. He went on to explain what this opportunity has felt like for him, "This is one of those once-in-a-lifetime things." NEW YORK (AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw said Friday that he likely won't return from a sore left shoulder until August.Kershaw was put on the injured list on July 3 and got an MRI after consulting with Los Angeles head team physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache. San Mateo County prosecutors are pushing for a man accused of beating and attempting to rape his girlfriend in the bathroom of a Belmont restaurant to get prison time given previous convictions for domestic violence and sex crimes in the past 20 years.Jason Matthew Thornton, 40, got into an argument with his girlfriend over money about 6:40 p.m. on June 26 inside a bathroom at a Panda Express restaurant on El Camino Real, according to San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.Thornton told his girlfriend he wanted sex with her then and there, but when she declined he went on a vicious attack, choking her, pushing her down and punching her multiple times before forcefully pulling her pants down, according to police. (BCN) -- A former San Francisco building inspector was sentenced Friday to a year and day in federal prison on charges connected to taking bribes, federal prosecutors said. Bernard Curran, 62, pleaded guilty to charges that he accepted cash and charitable donations from developers and property owners whose projects he had responsibility for approving, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of California. According to his plea agreement, Curran worked for the San Francisco Department of Building Inspection in 2005 and was promoted to senior building inspector in 2009.
