ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Events across the country, including a sunrise gathering in Minneapolis, a rally at the statehouse in Maine, and traditional dancing, music and food in Alaska and Arizona, marked celebrations of Indigenous Peoples Day.The ceremonies, speeches and performances in traditional regalia Monday came two years after President Joe Biden officially commemorated the day honoring “America’s first inhabitants and the Tribal Nations that continue to thrive today.”At a gathering in Phoenix where dancers performed in traditional Aztec clothing, Sifa Matafahi said it was an opportunity to “pay respect to Indigenous cultures … to reflect on our past and history while also acknowledging our cultural presence.”In Minnesota, about 150 people, including the governor and lieutenant governor, attended a sunrise prayer and ceremony at Bde Maka Ska, a lake surrounded by parkland on the south side of Minneapolis.“Today, we recognize our ancestors and predecessors wh...Lions relying on creativity as well as toughness in 4-1 start

DETROIT (AP) — Dan Campbell loves hard-nosed football. The Detroit Lions coach just doesn’t think it is enough to build a winning team.“We’ll always be known as a tough, physical team on offense, defense and special teams,” he said of his 4-1 Lions. “But if you are just tough and you are just physical and you have no creativity, you’re not going to do anything with it.”That hasn’t been an issue since Campbell took over the team. Not only does he go for it on fourth down more than any other NFL coach, he seems to have an endless supply of fake kicks and trick plays. On Sunday, when the Lions broke open the game with two second-quarter touchdowns in 29 seconds, the latter came when the Lions turned a reverse into a flea-flicker. With the Panthers defense out of position, Jared Goff hit Sam LaPorta for a 31-yard touchdown and a 21-7 lead.“I think our guys enjoy those plays, and it is a little bit of eye candy, but it also sets up all the other things we do,” Campb...Los hispanos tienen “un riesgo desproporcionadamente mayor” de desarrollar alzhéimer frente a los estadounidenses blancos, revela informe

AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — A suspect has been identified in the killing of a 15-year-old boy as officials work to quell worries about safety near the Aurora shopping mall where he was killed.Raphael Velin was killed at the Southlands shopping center on Sept. 30. Police now say they have issued an arrest warrant for a suspect in the killing.“To the family of the suspect, you need to be part of the solution, not part of the problem. This individual is wanted for murder,” interim Aurora Police Chief Art Acevedo said.Acevedo said the teen's killing was not related to homecoming celebrations, but he said it was a risky pre-planned meeting. WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden has been interviewed as part of an independent investigation into his handling of classified documents, the White House said late Monday. It's a possible sign that the investigation is nearing its end. Special counsel Robert Hur is investigating the improper retention of classified documents from Biden’s time as a U.S. senator and as vice president that were found at his Delaware home, as well as at a private office that he used in between his service in the Obama administration and becoming president.Biden has said he did not know the documents were there.Ian Sams, a spokesperson for the White House counsel's office, said in a statement that the interview was voluntary and conducted at the White House on Sunday and Monday. Hur's office likely asked to interview Biden sometime after Aug. 25. Asked at that time if he planned to sit for an interview with the special counsel, Biden replied, “There's no such request and no such interest.”The intervi...Affidavit: Suspect's drug use, fear of being robbed led up to parole officer's death

The U.S. State Department describes Hamas as a terrorist organization Its primary goal is to eliminate Israel and create a Palestinian country in its place. While organized in the 80’s, Hamas rose to power in 2007 after winning elections in the Gaza strip.“Well initially, they were supported because they were seen as pious, they were seen as that they were going to uphold Islamic values, that they were going to be less corrupt than the Palestinian authority,” said Eric lob, professor at FIU.Lob said since then, Hamas has been running Gaza with an iron fist, which makes it hard to gauge how much support they actually have in the region.“Everyday Palestinian civilians who live there, some may support their military actions against Israel but others pay the price,” he said. “A lot of civilians as we are seeing today, as hundreds are killed and thousands are injured or dislocated within Gaza with really nowhere to go, ultimately they pay the price for ...Bruins start youth movement up the middle

With the retirements of Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci and the departure of Tomas Nosek, the Bruins desperately needed young centermen to step up in training camp and they did just that. Now comes the real test. Both Matthew Poitras and John Beecher made the B’s opening night roster, and they unequivocally earned their spots. Judging from the lines at Monday’s Garden practice, Poitras will center a third line between Morgan Geekie and Trent Frederic while Beecher will be on a fourth line between Milan Lucic and Jakub Lauko when the Chicago Blackhawks come to town to kick off the Centennial season. While it seemed like the 19-year-old Poitras, the big story of the camp, had cemented his spot when he scored the game-winner in the B’s final preseason game at Madison Square Garden, it wasn’t quite as clear for Beecher. While he remained in camp after the final preseason tilt, Patrick Brown skated in the fourth-line center spot last Friday and it seemed like the B...Latest news
