ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — There was a Travis Kelce sighting — two of them, actually — at the World Series. No sign of Taylor Swift, though. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end was shown on the video board twice Friday night during Game 1 of the World Series at the Texas Rangers, who are playing the Arizona Diamondbacks. There was a mix of cheers and boos the first time the Rangers showed Kelce. The second time, the cheers won the day as Swift’s “Shake It Off” played over the public address system. The Chiefs play Sunday at Denver, but Kansas City is less than a two-hour flight from the Dallas area. Kelce wouldn’t have any trouble getting back before the team flies to Colorado.Kelce and Swift have been in a budding relationship since Kelce made overtures toward her after he failed to meet her at a show on her Eras Tour. Swift took him up on an offer to attend a game, and in the six games since the pop superstar did that, Kelce had 499 yards receiving and four touchdowns.Kelce smil...Police chase in Denver ends with barricade, suspect's death

DENVER (KDVR) — In the Denver metro area, crews are fueling up and preparing for the first snow of the season. “We’ve been watching the forecast all week,” said Nancy Kuhn with the Denver Department of Transporation and Infrastructure. “We’re switching gears now. We put the plows on the trucks that we’ve been using for other programs, and now we’re readying the trucks to plow tonight or address the roads in any way that’s needed." How much snow will Denver get this weekend? Kuhn said they have crews coming in at 10 p.m. on Friday and plan to rotate throughout the weekend."We’ll ramp up overnight. We’ll watch the bridges and overpasses,” Kuhn said. “They tend to get icy first, so they’ll be monitoring conditions, and then we’re going to ramp up even more tomorrow to prepare for snow to potentially accumulate.”The city of Denver uses a liquid and granule material to deice the streets if needed. (CNN) — The US Food and Drug Administration is sharing a new warning about the risks of probiotics for hospitalized preterm infants. The products have been linked with over two dozen reported adverse events since 2018 and one death in 2023, the agency said.On Thursday, the agency announced it had sent a warning letter to Abbott Laboratories for its Similac Probiotic Tri-Blend product, which the FDA described as an unapproved new drug and unlicensed biological product based on statements on its website and in marketing materials. The company agreed to discontinue sales of the product, the agency said.In a statement on Friday, Abbott said that the issue “pertains to a single probiotic additive” for Similac Probiotic Tri-Blend, and that the probiotic is used by fewer than 200 hospitals. It does not apply to Abbott infant formula products.“Parents and caregivers can continue to find and use Similac infant formulas nationwide. This Warnin...Franks: Can ‘dead’ people vote in your town?
Published Wed, 27 Nov 2024 21:01:33 GMT
How do you know if your town or city has dead people voting in it? In the spirit of the season, let’s call them “Halloween voters.”If your town or city does not abide by the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 in its entirety, it is more than likely leaving the door open for dead folks to walk into the voting precincts. Or better yet, these folks could vote absentee – well, they are “absentee voters” in a sense – after all they are dead or no longer live where they once lived. But for the overly ambitious political operative, they are votes to be had. Both parties potentially could take advantage of this situation. The political machines of each party learn this early on. I did. Because back in the early 1980s I got my very first volunteer job as a political “worker bee.” Years later, I realized I was helping to build the foundation for such practices. It must be noted that, even at its worst, this practice would only affect close elections. Not too close, because the bad politica...Jazzmyn RED brings hip hop deep dive to Harvard

Jazzmyn RED walked into the United African Alliance Community Center in Tanzania and the first song she heard was Common’s “I Used to Love H.E.R.” Then a student at Bridgewater State University on an academic study tour, RED had traveled halfway around the world to hear a DJ in Arusha spin a hip hop classic from the States.“I am in a whole other part of the planet and they’re playing Common, and not only Common, but old school Common,” RED told the Herald. “It was the first time I had been to Africa, returned to the motherland so to speak, and hip hop followed me there.”Since college, Jazzmyn RED has become one of Massachusetts’ smartest, sharpest, boldest MCs — listen to recent single “The Feminist” to hear her spell it out as she booms, “brain, beauty, and bars, that’s a deadly combination.” But she’s also an activist and educator who has spent years digging into the history of hip hop. Over the next few weeks, RED will present a series of workshops, “The Hip Hop Experience,...Lowry: Anti-Israel demonstrators hate the West

The cataract of anti-Israel sentiment on college campuses has been shocking, but it shouldn’t be surprising. It is the poisoned fruit of teaching a generation of college students to despise their own civilization.Jesse Jackson famously led a chant at Stanford University in 1987, “Hey, hey, ho, ho, Western Civ has got to go.” He was talking about the college course, but he might as well have been talking about the thing itself.Jackson and his allies had extraordinary success in extinguishing the teaching of Western Civ. Not only have we largely stopped transmitting the story of our own civilization, we have substituted an alternative narrative that the West is reducible to racism, imperialism and colonialism. It is in this context that the current outburst of anti-Zionism has to be understood. Yes, it has been fed by anti-Israel agitation on campus over the decades and yes, students are susceptible to witless radicalism in the best of circumstances. Yet the loathing o...Editorial: Will Biden repeat Obama’s ‘red line’ mistake?

More than 11 years ago, Barack Obama drew his “red line” in the sand. Will the Biden administration make the same mistake? It was August 2012 when Obama, running for a second term in the Oval Office, held a news conference and fielded a question about the ongoing civil war in Syria. The president said that he had so far avoided U.S. military intervention but that his calculations would change if Syria crossed a “red line” and used chemical weapons.A year later, a chemical weapons attack believed to have been carried out by the regime of Bashar al-Assad killed 1,400 people near Damascus. Obama did little about his “red line” but eventually cut a deal with Vladimir Putin and Russia to have Syria turn over its chemical stockpiles to international inspectors. The agreement was a failure, the victim — as The Atlantic later put it — “of Syrian deception, Russian duplicity and American dithering.”Fast forward to this month in the wake of the horrific Hamas terror attack on Israel. Dear Abby: I’m having an issue with my longtime best friend. We no longer live in the same state, but we talk several times a week and try to visit every year. We both love crafting, and two years ago, I started making her a big, beautiful counted cross-stitch and had it custom framed. The project took several months, and she knew I was making it.She offered — I didn’t ask — to make me a quilt from T-shirts I had collected over the years from various places I had been. So I cut the logos/graphics off the shirts and mailed them to her. She told me it would take her only a week to make the quilt. That was two years ago. It has been a year since I drove six hours each way to deliver my cross-stitch gift to her, and she still hasn’t made the quilt.I have since moved even farther away. I miss home, and I really want the quilt. I have asked her about it several times. The quilt would mean so much to me, especially now that I’m more than 1,000 miles away...Latest news
