‘A wonderful young man’: Boston school mourns loss of teen killed in skiing accident Excel Academy Charter High School in Boston is mourning the loss of a tenth grade student after the student died in a skiing accident over the weekend. The incident happened on Pats Peak in New Hampshire on Saturday night. On Monday, school community members grieved and remembered 15-year-old Christopher DiPrima as someone who was kind and smart, who loved movies, loved chess and who recently developed a passion for skiing. DiPrima’s cousin Steven Gingras said DiPrima hit a bump while skiing with his parents and his sister. Healey plan for housing secretariat finds welcome audience in Legislature The governor’s plan to split the Department of Housing and Economic Development into a pair of separate secretariats found a welcoming audience to start the week, when a joint legislative committee sat to hear her plans for an entirely housing focused position in the executive branch.“It’s really no greater a topic, in terms of importance right now,” Gov. Maura Healey said during a Monday morning hearing by the Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight. “You know the realities better than anyone — what you’re hearing from constituents — whether it’s seniors who can’t afford to stay or downsize, renters who can’t afford rent. People can’t think about home ownership. The disparities have only widened and exacerbated in this time.”Healey’s plan would create an entirely new Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities and rename the current secretariat simply the Executive Office of Economic Development. Both positions would be cabinet level and repor...

DeMar DeRozan’s increased 3-point volume an extra boost to the Chicago Bulls offense — but Billy Donovan has one tweak

DeMar DeRozan’s increased 3-point volume an extra boost to the Chicago Bulls offense — but Billy Donovan has one tweak When DeMar DeRozan sank a second-straight 3-point basket against the Los Angeles Lakers in Sunday’s win, the celebration that followed was automatic. All DeRozan had to do was stand still — his teammates came to him, bounding and bouncing off him to acknowledge something slightly rare.DeRozan has never been known as a 3-point shooter — nor does he want to be. He’s built an All-Star career on a brutal efficiency in the midrange and an incomparable ability to earn trips to the free-throw line, a unique style that continues to stand out even as the league becomes increasingly dependent behind the arc.But the last month saw a steep spike in DeRozan’s shooting volume from behind the arc. In the past 11 games of March, DeRozan is making 1.3 baskets on 2.9 attempts from 3-point range, doubling his typical production of 0.6 makes on 1.8 attempts on the season.DeRozan has always balanced his low attempt from 3-point range with high efficiency — so when he ...

Robbins: Citizens stand up for democracy around the world

Robbins: Citizens stand up for democracy around the world The fight to preserve democracy around the world has come to resemble a game of Whack-A-Mole, with autocrats wielding power or chasing it emerging on the global scene only to be faced down, then to emerge again. The biggest battle of them all is playing out in Ukraine, where a conscience-less war criminal unrepentant about committing mass murder has sought to lay waste to civilians indiscriminately, and where a historically brave population is showing the world, quite simply, what it means to fight and die for freedom. In Iran, tens of thousands of citizens protesting in the wake of the killing of Mahsa Amini, a young Iranian-Kurdish woman who died in the custody of that regime’s “morality police,” have been detained. According to Human Rights Activists in Iran, an organization that tracks the government’s repression of dissidents, at least 530 demonstrators have been killed by the mullahs’ enforcers. That is likely an underestimation, and does not include those summarily executed by...
