Austin Energy increases rates for fourth time over past year AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin Energy (AE) said there would be another rate change beginning Nov. 1. The change would increase the average residential customer's bill by about $1.50 a month.This would be the fourth time the electric utility has increased its rate over the past year.Starting on your October bill, AE added another increase that added up to under $2 a month, but in November 2022, monthly bills were increased by an average of $15, and then in March, Austin Energy’s base rate rose to $13 a month. The robbery happened at the Comercia Bank located at 2315 East Anderson Lane around 2 p.m. Wednesday, APD said. According to APD, the suspect, identified as Derrick Nix, 48, entered the bank, grabbed a customer and "roughly guided" him to the teller station. He then demanded money and threatened everyone near him, APD said. Williamson County clerk's office warns of fraudulent caller WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) -- The Williamson County District Clerk's Office is warning residents of a fraudulent caller. According to the office, residents have been receiving calls from someone claiming to be a county official or law enforcement officer telling them that they have missed jury duty. The caller then tells the person to pay or they'll be arrested. District Clerk Lisa David said this was not a practice used in the county for jurors who don't appear for jury service. David warned residents to not send money to these types of callers. Anyone who wishes to file a report about receiving a fraudulent call should contact the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office at 512-943-1300.

Groundbreaking on new St. Paul fire station in Dayton’s Bluff will mean retirement for 92-year-old firehouse Heavy rain Friday morning didn’t postpone the ceremonial groundbreaking for a new fire station in St. Paul’s Dayton’s Bluff — officials said there had already been a long enough wait for the project to get started.The new fire Station 7 will be across the street from the 92-year-old station on Ross Avenue between Earl and East Seventh streets.The project has a $10.7 million budget. It was originally expected to be about $9 million when the city funded it in 2019.“Then COVID came along … (and) supply chain issues came along,” said Fire Chief Butch Inks. “Apparently it takes six to eight months to get a window sometimes and then that window has tripled in price.”The land for the new station is currently a vacant lot, which previously was home to the Viaduct Inn, a bar and restaurant. Two spikes in activity in the city water system are considered isolated incidents - but the city is still trying to figure out what caused them.
